A Parallax View
Public Art Project
A Parallax View (2023) explores the interplay between form, structure and public movement, inviting a reconsideration of spatial relationships through architecture, rhythm and perceptual interaction. Installed along the sculptural facade of Vancouver’s BOSA Waterfront at 320 Granville St., the work engages the architectural environment’s inherent qualities, echoing the fluidity of cascading curves and stacked forms while responding to the urban dynamism surrounding Waterfront Station. Through repetitive, ripple-like shapes and a reflective chrome finish, A Parallax View harmonizes with its architectural host, transforming passive observation into active engagement as the mirrored surfaces capture the landscape and pedestrian movement. Utilizing principles of anamorphosis and the Gestalt law of Closure, the artwork invites viewers to bridge abstract contours in their minds, creating a continuously shifting experience that oscillates between presence and absence, permanence and transience. By drawing viewers into this shared spatial moment, A Parallax View offers a layered interaction that reflects the temporality of urban movement and memory, challenging the fixed nature of architectural form and inviting a deeper reflection on the fluid boundaries of art in public space.
