Installation view, Vancouver Art Gallery’s commision for Offsite, Vancouver
Terracotta, burlap, sand, bricks, foam, steel, vinyl
This public art commission by the Vancouver Art Gallery for their Offsite location critically examines the act of screaming as both a release and a form of contestation, exploring the tension between private vulnerability and public expression. Participants are invited to scream into terracotta vessels—chosen for their literal fragility yet symbolic durability as a material that has endured across human history—challenging the boundaries of personal exposure in a shared space.
Situated at Offsite in downtown Vancouver, TIME TO LET GO... transforms an urban environment defined by luxury residences and commercial spaces into a platform for communal vulnerability and collective reflection. This installation prompts viewers to consider the systemic pressures of contemporary life, where structures that once supported human agency now operate autonomously, often silencing individual expression. Through this work, the installation critically probes whether spaces remain within these entrenched systems for reflective critique and the reclamation of genuine public expression.
